Therapy Approaches

Our Counselling Approaches - Practice

WHAT IS COUNSELLING?

Counselling is an umbrella term that covers a range of talking therapies. It involves the use of skills and techniques by trained professionals to resolve client's personal and interpersonal conflicts, consequently, promoting and improving client's

  •  self- knowledge,
  • emotional acceptance and growth
  • optimal development of personal resources and well-being (BACP, 2012).

Counselling is therefore helpful in dealing with painful emotions, making difficult decisions, improving relationships, and/or developing a better understanding of self or others. Counselling is particularly helpful if:

  • something upsetting and unsettling has happened (e.g. bereavement, redundancy, or change of relationship), and if help offered by friends and family is not enough, or not available.
  •  something happened in the past that has not been dealt with, and is now interfering with your daily life. This may be a traumatic event that happened in childhood or later in life (e.g. death or illness of close person, bullying or abuse).
